Synthetic Method
In a 15L round-bottomed flask, place 100g (1.1mol) of aniline, 1L of water, and 100mL (12.mol) of concentrated hydrochloric acid. When the aniline is dissolved, add 5L of water, and place the flask in an ice bath to cool. Then slowly add 577g (185mL, 3.6mol) of bromine until the solution has a significant yellow color, which takes about 34 hours, and the reaction is complete. Filter the tribromophenol using a Buchner funnel, wash thoroughly with water, and dry. In a 5L flask equipped with a reflux condenser, place damp tribromophenol, 2.1L of 95% ethanol, and 525mL of benzene. Heat the flask on a steam bath to dissolve the tribromophenol. In this solution, add 140mL of concentrated sulfuric acid, and then add 140g (2.03mol) of solid sodium nitrite while maintaining the normal progress of the reaction. When the reaction is complete, heat the solution to a boil and maintain this state until no more gas evolves, and then place it in a warm place for 3 hours. When the mixture cools, filter, and then add a solution prepared from 150mL of concentrated sulfuric acid and 1.5L of water to the solid. After the excess sodium nitrite has decomposed, filter, wash the solid with water, and then wash with a small amount of ethanol. The crude dried 1,3,5-Tribromobenzene is brownish red, with a melting point of 112~116℃, and the yield is 250~260g.
